Organization

Story has no clear beginning, middle or conclusion.

Story has some, but not all components of a beginning, middle and/or conclusion.

Story has a clear beginning, middle and conclusion.
Story has clear and descriptive beginning, middle and conclusion, and is easy to follow.

Use of descriptive language

Story contains no examples of descriptive language.
Story contains 1 or 2 examples of descriptive language.
Story contains 3- 4 examples of descriptive language.
Story contains 5+ examples of descriptive language.




Conventions


Story has many spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, and makes story very difficult to understand.
Story has some spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, and makes some parts of story difficult to understand.
Story has a few spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, but does not affect understanding of text.
Story has no spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors.  Story is easy to read and comprehend.




Style

Story uses simple words with basic, simple sentences.
Story uses some adjectives and adverbs and some variety of sentence structures.
Story uses a variety of adjectives and adverbs and includes a variety of sentence structures.
Story has a strong and consistent use of adjectives and adverbs, and contains smooth and varied sentence structures.
